Obituary

Alberta Griffin Thompson was born on May 22, 1951, in Minter, Ms. to the union of the late Mary Nell Griffin and the late Willie J. Griffin. On Sunday, June 11, 2023, she made her heavenly transition.

Alberta accepted Christ at an early age at Greater Mt. Mariah M. B. Church. She later joined Emmanuel M.B. Church under the leadership of Reverend Jesse Horton where she faithfully served.

Alberta attended Sally Reynolds, Blackburn Jr. High and a graduate of Jim Hill High School. Alberta worked at River Oaks Hospital and later retired from Merit Health Hospital.

During her years, she met the love of her life and on May 7, 1976, she united in Holy Matrimony to Cleo Thompson Jr.  To this union, 6 children were born, Richard E. Griffin, Janice C. Griffin Mayfield, Kesha L. Griffin, April L. Griffin, Cleo Thompson, III and Derrick T. Thompson were born.

Alberta was known for her big heart and her infectious smile. Alberta loved her family deeply and she spent her life being a dedicated wife, a wonderful mother to many, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with the family.

She was preceded in death by her son, Richard E. Griffin; siblings, Willie Lee Lewis, Samuel Griffin, Lossie Jean Thurman, Willie J. Griffin Jr., Ora Thomas, Shirley Ann West, Bessie Brown, and Lunzeo Armon.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Cleo Thompson Jr.; three daughters, Janice (Torrence) Mayfield, Kesha L. Griffin; April L. Griffin; two sons, Cleo Thompson, III, Derrick T. Thompson; three sisters; Mary Lousie Penn, Dessie Harris. Annette Perkins; five brothers, Joseph Howard, Jessie L. Griffin, Daniel Griffin, Christopher Griffin, Darrell Griffin, Joe L. Griffin and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
