Obituary

Ms. Barbara Ann Spence

Our beloved Barbara Ann Spence departed this life on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. She was born on May 28, 1942, in Florence, Mississippi to the late Booker T. (Big Daddy) and Annie Mae (Big Momma) Smith. She received her education, through Florence Public School System.

Barbara confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Florence, Mississippi. She was a faithful attending member until her health began to fail. Barbara's joy in her life was taking care of her family by helping to raise countless nieces and nephews and being compensated with love. In her early years you would find her on the fishing bank. And over the years she treasured family gatherings where she had the opportunity to share storytelling about her favorite "western" movies, and good ole fake wrestling. Her most recent favorite past time was a working puzzle books that as she said, "help her brain stay straight".

She was the oldest of fifteen and was preceded in death by her late husband, A.D. Spence; parents Booker T. and Annie Mae Smith; four brothers, Walter Albert Smith, Will T. Smith, Robert Earl Smith, and Walter Earl Smith; four sisters, Mary Smith, Theresa Wilson, Frances Smith, and Elaise W. Marselis.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, James Jackson of Jackson, Mississippi, and Robert Jackson (Dorothy) of Pearl, Mississippi; four sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Helen Noel (Simmie), Doris Love, and Alma Smith all of Jackson, Mississippi; two brothers, William Ray Smith (Beverly) and Nelson Smith both of Jackson, Mississippi; and host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
