On September 13, 2023, Birdie transitioned from this earthly life to an eternal life of peace and rest. She was born July 24, 1940, in Hinds
County, Mississippi. She was the first of nine children born to the union of the late Marie and Leslie Coleman, Sr. At an early age she confessed Christ and united with Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Learned, Mississippi, after which she attended Word of Faith Church in Jackson, Mississippi. Birdie received her early education at Edwards Jr. High School and Utica Institute. She was employed with Mt. Beulah, Trustmark Bank and JHCHC before her retirement. She was united in holy matrimony to Lynn A. Cooper on August 17,
1993, at which time two children were inherited. For the past 30 years they have shared a close and blessed life. Birdie had a zest for life that was expressed through her love and devotion to serving others. Her giving spirit left an impact on many people's lives. She
enjoyed traveling and being with people. Her hobbies included, cooking, gardening and making things grow. Birdie departed this earthly life around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at her home in Edwards, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Leslie, Jr., Eugene, Charles and Henry. She leaves her cherished memories to her devoted husband, Lynn A. Cooper; her son, Shannon Coleman, Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Sharon (Antonio) June, Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Dorian Anderson Sharif Ali and Xavier June; four sisters, Betty (Paul) Johnson, Jackson, Mississippi, Nettie Fitzgerald, Memphis, Tennessee, Christine Nelson, Atlanta, Georgia and Joyce
(Carl) Gray, Jackson, Mississippi; four sisters-in-law, Sudie Coleman, Essie Coleman, Bertha Coleman and Iris Coleman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
