Mrs. Corteena Stewart was born on May 22, 1943 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Willie and Rachel Morris. Mrs. Stewart started school at Sally Reynolds as a young girl and upon leaving there she enrolled at Jim Hill High School where she graduated. Mrs. Stewart completed her education at the Utica Community College in Utica, Mississippi. Mrs. Stewart had three children. One child Valencia Hazelton from her union with the late James Pickens and two children Rachel Holden and Corwin Stewart from her union with late Robert Stewart, Mrs. Stewart was saved at an early age and was an active member of the Church of the Living God in Jackson, Mississippi.
Mrs. Stewart had a passion for family. She spent majority of her time raising her children and assisting with her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to music, cooking, and having long talks with her sister, Margaret Morris. Not only did Mrs. Stewart care for her own family, but she also helped care for several children and families throughout the neighborhood. Mrs. Stewart was known for having a kind and compassionate spirit. She made the difference between a house and a home. Mrs. Stewart departed this life on June 1, 2022 at the University
of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Willie and Rachel Morris; her son Corwin Stewart; her former husbands, James Pickens and Robert Stewart; and her siblings, Mr. John Wesley Morris, Ms. Anne Cosey, Ms. Johnny Hopson, and Ms. Ruth Tate. Mrs. Stewart leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Rachel Holden and Valencia Hazelton; one brother, Rufus Morris; five grandchildren, Tulante Pickens, Nijah Williams, Jeremy Holden, and Jalyn Holden; and three great grandchildren, Jayda Holden, Tristen Myles, and Jamia Myles.
