Ms. Elaise W. Marselis

Elaise W. Marselis departed this life on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Highland Homes in Ridgeland, Mississippi. She was born on December 28, 1944, in Florence, Mississippi to the parentage of the late Booker T. (Big Daddy) and Annie Mae (Big Momma) Smith.

At an early age she confessed a faith in Jesus Christ that would guide her throughout her life. She was baptized at SpringHill Baptist Church in Florence, Mississippi where she remained a faithful member. After working approximately 40 years with the Mississippi Baptist Hospital, she retired in 2015. Elaise enjoyed a life of fishing, playing bingo with the family, cruising with the family, casino trips and just enjoying life until her health started to fail.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Booker t. and Annie Mae Smith; four brothers, Earl Smith, Walter Albert Smith, Will T. Smith, and Robert Earl Smith; three sisters, Mary Smith, Theresa Wilson and Frances Smith; and four grandchildren, Jessica Powell, Julius Gray, Christopher Catchings and Jonas Powell.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two beautiful daughters, Teresa (Chris) Catchings of Jackson, Mississippi and Jackquelin (Jonas) Powell of Byram, Mississippi; six living grandchildren, Latricia Gray of Byram, Mississippi, Jaibriuna (Anthony) Foster of Brandon, Mississippi, Jonathan Gray of Jackson, Mississippi, Krista Catchings of Brandon, Mississippi, and Joshua Powell of Byram, Mississippi; four great- grandchildren, Jamari Williams, Julius Haries, Zachariah Gray and Kinsley Walker; five sisters, Barbara Spencer, Bessie Wilson, Helen Noel, Doris Love and Alma Smith; two brothers, William Ray (Beverly Smith)  and Nelson Smith; play daughter Denice Gowdy; two god-daughters, Linda Caston and Teresa Austin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
