Mother Elmyra Watkins
Psalm of Life
...a time to be born
Ecclesiastes 3:2
It was on a wintry day on December 31, 1930, when a tiny, sweet bud blossomed on a "Watkins Tree" to begin life in a new world. The tree carried the name of the late Rosie Lee Lawerence and Albert Watkins. On this day, a baby bud which they named Elmyra Watkins made her grand entrance in Whaley, Mississippi and bloomed into a beautiful flower....and I will show you my faith by my deeds James 2:18
At an early age, mother confessed her life to Christ and united with the Second Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Whaley, Mississippi. After her son was called to pastor Ratliff Chapel Church, she became a faithful member and served as a mother.
Mother Watkins
was a
warrior for Christ....the sparrow has found a home Psalm 84:3
Two wonderful children were born, Queen and Frank. Mother was a gifted cook and shared her skills with granddaughter Myra. It was a joy to watch her and Myra "cook up a storm", especially during holidays. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us and establish the work of our hands. Psalm 70:17
Her employment included being a nanny, a cook for Holiday Inn in Greenwood, Mississippi and caring for her grandchildren. For I am ready to being poured out like a drink offering and the time of my departure is near, I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me a crown of righteousness... II Timothy 4:6-8
On Monday, March 11, 2024, Mother Watkins experienced a glimpse of Heavenly Glory. Shortly after this profound moment, she peacefully made her transition from this earthly life. She was in the loving presence of her daughters Queen and Regina, her sons Frank and Doug, who provided her with solace and comfort during her transition. And her legacy continues... Mother's legacy of kindness and love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, leaving behind a reminder to us all to cherish the moments. Mother leaves to cherish her memory: two devoted children: Queen (Douglas) Lacey and Frank (Regina) Watkins. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Calandra Calip, Wanda "Tina" Morrow. Frank Watkins, Jr., Douglas Lacey, Jr., Devan James, Dominque Walls and Myra Lacey; 11 great-grands and 4 great-great grands; one nephew, Frank Adams and a host of other relatives and friends. Welcome Home Mother Elmyra was reunited with a great cloud of witnesses including her parents, siblings and the rest of her ancestors.
