Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn Coleman,funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Morning Star Baptist Church, 342 Albermarle Road, Jackson, MS at 11:00 a.m.Visitation will be Sunday, November 27, 2018from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Willis and Sons Funeral Home 5235 Robinson Road Ext., Jackson MS.Interment: Autumn Woods Memorial Garden, Jackson, MS.

On Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, a devoted wife, sweet mother, loving sister, aunt, friend and neighbor was called home.

Evelyn Coleman was born to Lola Tillis and Wade Bibbs on July 24, 1931, in Florence, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was the oldest of two children born to this union, accepted Christ at an earl age. She joined Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C.F. Jordan.

Evelyn attended Mary C. Jones/ Lanier High School, Jackson, Mississippi. For a number of years she worked on various jobs in Jackson, Mississippi, including employment for the family of Governor and Mrs. William F. Winters.

For over three decades, Evelyn was employed by the McRae family, through that employment grew strong ties of mutual affection and devotion, not only within the McRae family, but throughout a broad community of friends.

Evelyn was united in holy matrimony to William A. Coleman, Sr., on December 12, 1248. To this union seven children were born. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Priscilla Coleman-Checks.

Evelyn leaves to cherish her memories: a loving husband, William A. Coleman Sr.; six children, Virdis Powell, Jackson, Mississippi, Linda Coleman-Woods, Houston,Texas, William A. Coleman Jr., (Dorothy), Pascagoula, Mississippi, Shellie Michael (Calvin), Jackson, Mississippi, Pamela Gable (Tracy), Houston, Texas. and Melvin Coleman of Jackson, Mississippi. Her memories will forever be cherished by: her loving sister, Lorene Johnson; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loyal friends. She is also mourned by Nora Frances and Vaughan McRae and children, Douglas, Selby, Alexander, and Cameron McRae.

Her beautiful spirit and warmth will long be remembered. She will always remain in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.
