James Earl McCoy, Jr. was born on July 15, 1949, to the late James E. McCoy, Sr. and Charlie Mae Johnson, in Raymond, Mississippi. He transitioned on Monday, August 14, 2023, at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

James accepted his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as a young child at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Edwards, Mississippi. James received his welding certification at Mississippi Job Corps Center in Utah where he went on to have a successful and prosperous welding career for many years. James united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Ann Coleman on April 27, 1974, in Edwards, Mississippi. The love and dedication they shared for one another lasted 49 years until he was called home. James leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Mary Ann McCoy; son, Patrick (Katrina) Coleman; daughters, Chiquita (Calvin) Pendleton, Aliska (Charlie) Noel, Erica (Tyronnea) McCoy, and Cheryl (Nathan) Brown; brother, Willie McCoy; seventeen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nephews, Marcus McCoy and Eric McCoy; three great nieces; one great nephew; and a host of additional family and friends. Preceding him in death are his father, James E. McCoy, Sr.; stepmother, O.D. McCoy; granddaughter, Khanesiera Dabryanna McCoy; and cousin, Albert Johnson.
