Mrs. Jannie Champion

Mrs. Janie Mae (Thomas) Champion was born on June 26, 1939, in Forest Hill, Mississippi. She was the 12th child born to her loving
parents Charley Thomas and Lilly Hurst. After many years of helping her father with his farm, she traveled north to Wisconsin to continue
her service as a laborer. On August 15, 1954, she married Robert Lee Champion, and six children were born to this union: Mary Elizabeth
Champion of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Robert Earl Champion of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Richard Lee Champion of Jackson, Mississippi and Curtis Champion of Toledo, Ohio. She had 2 sons who preceded her in death, Eddie James Champion, and Willie David Champion both of Jackson, Mississippi.

During her joyful life Janie Mae Champion obtained her G.E.D at the age of 40. She worked with her brother Jimmie Lee Hurst by driving
trucks. She also helped serve food at several Jackson Public Schools. Another gift that she shared was caregiving. She provided care for
Ms. Barbara for over 10 years. In her later years, Janie Mae Champion became a proud member of Greater New Day Missionary Baptist Church. She had a beautiful singing voice and brightened the lives around her by sharing her God-given talent with the Seven Wonders, the Wondering Stars, and the Mighty Clouds of Joy. She shared these special times with one of her best friends, Mrs. Katherine Love.
