Mr. Joe Torry Jr.

March 12, 1946- September 21, 2023

Mr. Joe (Bruh) Tory, Jr. was born March 12, 1946, in Hinds County, Mississippi, to the late Joe Tory, Sr. and Eliza Callahan-Tory Gibbs. He transitioned to his new home on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. He confessed Christ at an early age at the Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Edwards, Mississippi. Joe attended Mt. Moriah School and Hinds County Agricultural High School. He worked at Jackson Packing Company for several years and other jobs. He later left the Edwards area and moved to Saginaw, Michigan where he lived until his death. He was employed by General Motors for 38.5 years and an active member of the union until he retired in 2006. He was a hardworking man and a lover of sports. Not only did he play, but he also coached his youngest son's basketball team. In his spare time, he loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother-in-law. Joe provided and cared for many throughout his life. He found joy in traveling throughout the United States with his
family and friends. To know him was to know that he was a great provider, a strong and respectful man. He was wise and loved to share his wisdom. He was blessed to live a life filled with laughter and love. He cherished many relatives and friends that remained in contact with him over the years. To know him was to love him. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his seven sisters, Josephine Tory, Lena Strong, Mattie B. Tory, Eliza Tory, Mary Myles, Ruby Hill and Joe Ann Tory; five nephews, Willie B. Tory, Joseph Tory, Karthur Myles, and Michael Tory; one niece, Ireen Tory Caston; and two great nephews, Randy Caston and Derrick Myles. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Johnnie B. Torry of Saginaw, Michigan; five children, Eddie (Vickie) Morgan of Centerville, Virginia, Jessie (Jackie) Morgan of Jackson, Mississippi, Hamilton (Johnnie) Tory of Hermanville, Mississippi, Montra (Wenel) Morgan of Saginaw, Michigan and Nina Jones of Saginaw, Michigan; sixteen grandchildren, Charvia Morgan, Latisha Morgan, Alexis Morgan, Jessica Morgan, Jacara Morgan, Britany (Markus) Carter, Brianna Jones, Montra Morgan, Mahleia Morgan, Rakuan Tory, Hamilton Tory , Jr., Ormon Tory, Jada Tory, Amber Tory, Dvoris Tory and Montavis Tory; four great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
