Mattie Mae Christmas Hunter was born, May 14, 1924, to the late Alex and Willie Ann Christmas in Dundee, Mississippi. Mattie accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Edwards, Mississippi. She later joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Edwards, Mississippi where she served as a mother of the church.

On Sunday, May 27, 2018, our beloved mother and grandmother was called home by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She always said, "When the Lord is ready for me to be a flower in His garden, I'm ready." Mattie often prayed to be with the Lord peacefully from her very own home, and the Lord granted her wish.

On December 18, 1947, Mattie was united in holy matrimony to the late Melvin Hunter, Sr. To this union five loving children were born. Mattie touched many lives in her lifetime, she was one who never met a stranger and would give you her last with no hesitation. The doors were always open and you would never leave her house hungry.

Mattie was preceded in death by: her husband, Melvin Hunter, Sr; one daughter, Mattie Mae Dulaney; two sons, Velma "Evin" Hunter and Larry Hunter; three sisters, Christine and Mandy Christmas and Mary C. Fultz; and one brother, Alex "Buddy" Christmas.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: one daughter, Theresa Mae Hunter; one son; Johnny Lee (Brenda) Hunter, Sr., both of Edwards, Mississippi; the best son-in-law, L. C. Dulaney; one daughter-in-law, Annie Ruth Hunter; two special sons whom she reared, F. D. Willis and Melvin Hunter, Jr.; eight step children; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
