A Time To Be Born
Mae Dorothy Foster , age 87, a longtime resident of Edwards, MS passed away peacefully at her granddaughter's home on Sunday, December 22, 2024. Mae Dorothy was born on March 26, 1937, in Learned, MS, to Eli and Mattie (Collins) Foster.
A Time To Live
Mae Dorothy confessed Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Moriah M. B. Church. Following her marriage to Jimmy Thompson on July 18, 1953, she became a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. Together, Mae Dorothy and Jimmie were blessed with one daughter, Mae Dorothy , born on July 5, 1954. She was faithful member of Mark M. B. Church serving on the Mother's Board until her death. A woman of compassion and resilience, Mae Dorothy demonstrated her work ethic early on. She was employed at Cal-Maine Foods as a USDA inspector and at Tyson Foods. She later worked for Hinds County School System, retiring after years of dedicated service. Throughout her life, Mae Dorothy prioritized family, often taking sabbaticals from work to care for her father, husband, aunt and daughter during their times of need.
A Time Of Home Going
On Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 3:34 a.m., God called Mae Dorothy to rest, marking the end of her earthly mission. She transitioned peacefully, surrounded by love and family. Mae Dorothy was preceded in death by: her parents; her beloved husband of 41 years, Jimmie Thompson; her daughter, Dorothy Mae; and siblings, Samuel Foster, John Foster, Eli Foster, Jr., Willie Foster, Russell Foster, Curtiscene Foster, Lloyd Foster, and Mary Jean Funches.
A Time To Mourn
Mae Dorothy leaves behind cherished memories with her surviving sisters, Mattie Taylor of Edwards, MS, Margaret (Harold) Washington and Rena Foster, both of Brooklyn, NY, and Beulah Johnson, Clara Nichols and Linda Foster of Miami, FL. She and Jimmie played a pivotal role in raising a niece and nephew, as well as a son, Justin Wilson of Edwards, MS. She is also survived by her three devoted granddaughters, Hope of Edwards, MS, Heather (William) of Florence, MS, and Brittney (Curtis) of Gulfport, Mississippi. Her great-grandchildren include Shannon Thompson, Dexter Thompson and Jerrica Dixon, all of Edwards, MS, Gabi and Kaden Devore of Florence, MS and CJ, Brycen, Connor and Carson Phinisee, all of Gulfport, MS. She was further blessed with two-great-great grandchildren, Kasion and Kairo Thompson of Edwards, MS.
A special bond was shared with her nephew Ellis Foster of Edwards, MS. She is also remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
