Mrs. Nina Faye Brookshire, age 77 of Edwards, MS died April 28, 2016 at University Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be Thursday May 5, 2016 at 11:00 am. Location will be Friendship Missionary
Baptist Church, 204 Williamson Ave Edwards, MS. Visitation will be held on Wednesday
May 4, 2016, at Willis and Sons Funeral Home, 5235 Robinson Road Ext, Jackson, MS. Time
for Visitation is 12:00 Noon until 7:00 pm.

On Saturday, November 12, 1938, God called into existence, one delicate and, exquisitely beautiful baby girl and as written, she was fearfully and wonderfully made.Born to Henry and Rhoda Smothers in Edwards, Mississippi, and the youngest of six siblings.

When She Met the Lord
It was in her youth that she made up her mind and decided to give her life to Christ at Friendship M. B. Church under the leadership of the later Reverend Curtis L. West.Mother rededicated her life to Christ under the leadership of the late Dr. M.K. Nelson and was a member of the Adult Choir and worked with the Baptist Training Union (BTU) until her health became challenging to her.


Her Appreciation for Knowledge and Work Ethics
Momma her attended school in Edwards and graduated from Hinds A.H.S. in Utica, Mississippi.After graduation she attended Nursing School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and worked at Kuhn Memorial Hospital in Vicksburg, Mississippi and the State Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

The MatriarchCandy Girl, as we affectionately called her, maintained her independence for as long as she could.She never complained and was always cheerful.God in His infinite wisdom allowed our mother to exemplify His Son through her unselfish giving.Her love was not in idle words of platitude.Hers was a love expressed in actions; she was the embodiment of God's Word.Her love spoke the voice of Paul that says "love bears all things, believe all things, hopes all things, endures all things, love never fails."Our Momma demonstrated this kind of love, not only for God, but also to her family and friends. As on songwriter wrote, "Must Jesus bear the cross alone and the world go free, no there is a cross for everyone, and there is one for me." Momma's faith in God was strong and never wavered.She continued to trust in God's love and mercy.

One to Remember…In the last few years, in spite of her fighting spirit, Momma's health began to fail.On Thursday, April 28th, the Lord took her to His eternal home.Candy Girl you fought a good fight, the battle is over and the Master has called you to come to the Eternal Home He has prepared for all of us.

Her husband, Stanford Chico Brookshire; grandson Demeal Brookshire; her parents Henry and Rhoda Smothers; siblings, Bill Knox, Roberta Stamps, Mary Katherine Andrews, Tennessee Whitley, Addie Lloyd and Carrie Bell Turner all preceded Momma in death.


She leaves to mourn her death, celebrate her homegoing and cherish her fond memories her children: Reginald (Alice) Smothers of Biloxi, MS, Theresa B. Billups of Memphis, TN, Tanya B. (Jessie) West of Raymond, MS, Terri L. Brookshire of Milwaukee, WI, Kenneth D. (Tina) Brookshire Sr., Sharon Brookshire and Patrick (Christine) Brookshire all of Edwards, MS; 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a host of very special nieces, nephews and cousins, also the Knox, Andrews, Stamps, Campbell, Lloyd, Thomas and Carroll Families.
