On May 19, 1938, Sylvia Viola Wells Benett was born to the late Eddie and Ada West in Edwards, Mississippi. She was the youngest of twelve children. She often reminded her siblings that she was daddy's favorite. Sylvia confessed Christ at an early age, she was baptized at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Edwards, Mississippi under the leadership of Reverend C. W. Cornelius on August 33, 1948.
Sylvia received her early education at Mt. Moriah School, her high school diploma at Hinds A.H.S. in Utica, Mississippi. Sylvia married Gus Bennett on July 1, 1957, to this union, one child, Eddie Bennett was born. Sylvia worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years in
Illinois and Mississippi. Sylvia returned home to Edwards, Mississippi in 1990 and restored her membership with Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Elzie O'Neal. She loved to attend Sunday School and sing in the choir.
Sylvia loved and enjoyed everyone. She became a caregiver because of her love for children. She loved all of her BABIES... "as
she called them". Sylvia was summoned to her heavenly home on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 8:15 a.m. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, two sisters and seven brothers. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: one son, Eddie J. Bennett; one sister, Alma J. Powell of Edwards, Mississippi; one brother, Johnnie Wells of Burgaw, North; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
