Obituary

Ms. Theresa M. Hunter

Theresa Mae "Retha Mae" Hunter was born May 14, 1954, to the late Melvin Hunter, Sr. and Mattie Mae Christmas-Hunter. Theresa accepted Christ at an early age and joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. An angel transitioned her to her eternal home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 8:44 p.m.

Theresa attended Edwards Elementary, Edwards Junior High School and Hinds A.H.S. After school she began working for Holiday Inn/Cabot Lodge and retired after thirty years. Theresa loved being with family and friends. She lived each day making sure her children; Joseph, Kamie, Petie, Jala, JaMartae and NiKo were taken care of. There was nothing in the world she wouldn't do for them. She was going to fuss, but in the end, it was done. Anybody who knew Retha Mae could call her anytime day or night and she was coming. Her love and compassion for others will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Hunter, Sr. and Mattie Mae Christmas-Hunter; three brothers, Melvin Hunter, Jr., Elvin Hunter, Sr., and Larry Hunter; and two sisters, Mattie Mae Dulaney and Diane Wheaton. She leaves to cherish her memories and mourn her passing her
loving son, Joseph Hunter, daughter-in-law Arkamia Hunter; grandchildren, NiKendric "Petie" Hunter, Jala Hunter, and JaMartae Hunter; great-grandson NiKo Kyrie Hunter; four brothers, Oliver Coverson, Chicago, Illinois, Robert Powell and Johnny Hunter, Sr. (Brenda) Edwards, Mississippi and Willie Bishop, Utica, Mississippi; three sisters, Inette Williams and Doretha Coleman, Jackson, Mississippi and Gloria Ellison,
Atlanta, Georgia; two special brothers, L. C. Dulaney, Sr. and F. D. Willis, Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
