Thomas James Mitchell, Jr.

Thomas James Mitchell, Jr. , known affectionately as "Syrup" , was born on November 18, 1946, in Canton, Mississippi to the late Thomas Sr. and Annie Margaret Mitchell. Beloved as the eldest of 12, his life was marked by his motto, I'm Bigger Than That," and his love for his family.

Syrup's spirit shone brightly in Chicago, his flair for life and fashion leaving a memorable mark. he embraced his faith form a young age and reaffirmed his commitment to Christ at Advocate Masonic Chicago, Illinois. On November 4, 2023, at 7:32 a.m., Syrup answered divine call to eternal rest.

His legacy continues in the hearts of his family: daughter Melonnie Mitchell of Jackson, MS; son Anthony Mitchell of Canton, MS; grandchildren CWenton Mitchell of Lewisville, TX, and Ca'Mesha Mitchell of Flora, MS and great-grandchildren Kellen Anthony Micthell, Savannah Renee Mitchell, and Sariyah Jacqueline Mitchell. His brothers Jessie Mitchell of Detroit, MI, Eugene Mitchell, Angra Lewis of Canton, MS, and Rev. Edward Lewis of Kansas City, KS; sisters Makeeba Mitchell of Detroit, MI, Cynthia Body (Daniel) O'Quinn of Murphy, TX, and Carolyn (Frederick) Forde of Pleasant Valley, MO; and Cousin Ruby Johnson Dixon of Chicago, IL, who provided invaluable assistance and companionship, join in commemorating his memory. His spirit is also echoed in the lives of numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who shared in his journey.

Syrup was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Margaret Body and his father, Thomas Mitchell, Sr., sisters Gloria Jean Mitchell and Christine Mitchell, and brothers Willie Mitchell, Joseph Lewis and Clifton Body.
